Ranji Trophy: Yuvraj Singh hits ton; Karnataka on top

Bengaluru, Dec 9: After gaining a slender 16-run first innings lead, Karnataka batted themselves into a position of strength by making 247 for four in their second essay against Tamil Nadu on the third and penultimate day of their Ranji Trophy Group A league match here Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu, who were 240 for five overnight, collapsed to 274 all out with seamer Aravind Sreenath picking up three of the five wickets to come away with a haul of 4 for 52.

Karnataka then went for quick runs with openers Robin Uthappa (76, 117b, 10x4) and Mayank Agarwal (80, 113b, 12x4, 1x6) putting on 163 in just 37.3 overs to provide a solid platform. Manish Pandey (33 not out) and Karun Nair (35) pressed home the advantage to put the home team on top.

In Patiala, Yuvraj Singh struck a brisk ton (130) and Sandeep Sharma took three early wickets to put Haryana in trouble, after setting them a target of 321 with a day to go.

In Vadodara, Bengal lead by 109 runs against Baroda while in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh trail by 129 runs.

At Guwahati, Assam defeated Tripura by 10 wickets with medium pacer Krishna Das destroying Tripura claiming seven wickets for 50 runs while Saurashtra trailed hosts Delhi by 62 runs after getting bowled out for 217 in reply to Delhi's 442.
