Kolkata, April 8: The 8th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 8) Twenty20 tournament officially opened last night (April 7) at the Salt Lake Stadium here.

Bollywood actors enthralled the audience with dazzling performances despite heavy rain delaying the start of the "Opening Nite" by one and half hours. However, compared to previous ceremonies, there was disappointment among fans.

All the 8 captains, barring David Warner of Sunrisers Hyderabad were present. On behalf of Warner, Shikhar Dhawan signed the MCC Spirit of Cricket pledge.

MS Dhoni led the signing formalities with other skippers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shane Watson, George Bailey, Gautam Gambhir and JP Duminy also joining in.

The first match will be played today at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders face Mumbai Indians.
