Visakhapatnam, May 18: Rising Pune Supergiants' (RPS) batsman George Bailey felt like he was hit by a speeding truck after being struck on the helmet by a Nathan Coulter-Nile bouncer in an Indian Premier League 2016 (IPL 9) match against Delhi Daredevils (DD) last night (May 17).

Australia's 33-year-old Bailey, who was batting on 4, top-edged a pull off his compatriot Coulter-Nile and the ball crashed into the grille and due to the impact the helmet was knocked off and fell behind the stumps.
After the blow, Bailey stood his ground in the crease and used his bat to stop the helmet from rolling on to the stumps. Soon, DD players came to him and checked whether he was fine.
Thanks to the headgear, injury was avoided and Bailey resumed his batting. The incident happened on the last ball of the 7th over. RPS won by 19 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis method on Tuesday after rain halted play.
Reflecting on that scary episode, Bailey told IPL's official website that he was happy to have been wearing the newly designed helmet (British Standard).

"I think those watching on TV would get a better picture of it than I do, because what I sort of remember is me getting hit on the face with a truck that was pretty quick. But, I was pretty glad to have one of those new helmets on," the right-handed Bailey said.
"A couple of them (DD players) were disappointed that the helmet hadn't rolled on to the stumps(laughs). But, most people were just checking on me and how I was," he added.
Player safety is more in the spotlight in recent times after the death of Australian batsman Phil Hughes, who was struck on the back of his neck by a Sean Abbott bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match in Sydney in November 2014. Recently a 62-page review report into the death of Hughes, was submitted.
