Haryana's offspinner Jayant Yadav takes 7 wickets

By PTI

Rajkot, Jan 21: Haryana's Jayant Yadav bagged seven wickets to bundle out Saurasthra for 238 on the opening day's play only to see the visitors give away the advantage after losing their top three batsmen in the Group B Ranji Trophy match, here today.

Electing to bat in the four-day encounter at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, the Jaydev Shah-led hosts started off well only to lose momentum at the introduction of spin as Yadav (7-64) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2-72) spun a web around the middle and lower-order.

Chirag Jani top-scored with an unbeaten 54 only to see the last five batsmen go back to the pavilion for a mere 58 runs. But the Sunny Singh-led Haryana failed to capitalise on Yadav's bowling show as the visitors ended the day on 74 for three, a trail of 164 runs.

On a day of spin domination, off-spinner Kamlesh Makvana (2-32) and left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (1-20) also combined well to pick three early wickets including that of Sunny for a duck. Opener Rahul Dewan (35 not out) and Yadav (17 not out) are battling it out in the middle.
