No need to play against India, says Shahid Afridi

Islamabad, Sep 18: Pakistan's Twenty20 International captain Shahid Afridi feels his country's cricket board should not push for a bilateral series against India if they are not keen to play.

India-Pakistan bilateral series, scheduled for December this year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is unlikely to happen due to tensions between the two neighbours.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has hinted that the planned series might not happen. For the tour to take place, India's government needs to give the green signal.

Recently, International Cricket Council's (ICC) president and former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas said the time was right for India and Pakistan to resume cricketing ties.

However, Afridi, one of the stars of Pakistan, has urged Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to not push for the series if India is not keen.

"I don't know why we are pushing for series against India again and again," Afridi told reporters in Islamabad, according to "Associated Press" news agency.

"I don't see any reason to play (against India) if they don't want to play. We have invited them and if they do not want to play then it shouldn't be any worry, we are still happy," he added.

Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe later this month for a limited overs series. After the completion of the tour, they head to UAE to face England in Tests.
