On the 4th day of the ongoing 5th Test between India and England, Ashwin completed 250 runs to go with his 28 wickets for the series. During the 3rd Test, Ashwin had equalled Kapil for another record.
According to statisticians, the 30-year-old Ashwin is only the 2nd Indian to record a double of 250 plus runs and 25 or more wickets in a single Test series.
In 1979-80 Test rubber against Pakistan, Kapil took 32 wickets and scored 278 runs in 6 matches. Now Ashwin has joined an elite list.
Overall in Test history, Ashwin is only the 7th cricketer to achieve the double feat. The last man to do it was England's Ian Botham in 1985. Botham is the only one to do it twice.
