Rajkot, April 19: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli swapped his bat with a microphone as he interviewed team-mate Chris Gayle on Tuesday night (April 18) after a 21-run victory over Gujarat Lions (GL) in Match 20 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. (Scorecard)
It was a memorable day for RCB as Gayle became the first batsman in Twenty20 cricket history to score 10,000 runs. He returned to form with a 38-ball 77 and picked up the Man-of-the-match award. Kohli scored 64 off 50.
Gayle and Kohli put on 122 runs for the opening wicket which laid the foundation for RCB's 213/2 in 20 overs. (Match highlights)
After the match success, it was time for fun for the duo as Kohli chatted up with Gayle for IPL's official website iplt20.com.
Both admired each other and Gayle called Kohli a "legend" and wished him many more runs in his career.
Here is how the interview went on between the two RCB superstars
Virat Kohli: How does it feel opening with me? (Laughter from both players)
Chris Gayle: It is a great great feeling to open with you. Absolute pleasure man. You are a legend. You have many more runs to score. Really my privilege to watch you from the other end and see you score so fluently. Well done on your career so far. I wish you many many more (runs) from my heart, seriously.
Kohli: Thank you. If you didn't know, today (April 18) was our 10th 100-run partnership, which is a record. Today Chris Gayle got to 10,000 runs (in T20s) at an average of 40 (40.62), strike rate of 150 (149.51) and 16 (18) hundreds. So, congratulations. It is a crazy stat. It is my privilege to open with you as well.
Kohli: One word on your journey and 10,000 runs and how have you been the Universal Boss (for) so many years, consistently (again laughter from both players)?
Gayle: It is fantastic. It was a special moment today. We have had several hundred-run partnerships which is really great. It is such a great franchise (RCB) as well. Things are going great from personal point of view. Very very thankful for that. You guys are special. A lot of talented youngsters (in RCB) and it is good fun.
Kohli: Yeah man. I love this guy and I love opening with him. We are going to show our signature move to sign off now. (Both players lean back, come forward, shake hands and embrace).
