He was later admitted to a Bengaluru hospital. "Nayar had lost consciousness for some time and then failed to recognise people after hurting his head. He was taken to the hospital and CT scan was done which cleared him.

"He is out of danger now but has been kept under observation for a day," said Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Joint Secretary Nitin Dalal after speaking to the team management in Bengaluru, where the match is being played.

Asked whether Nayar can take any further part in the five-day game, he said, "that's up to the team management."

The ambidextrous all-rounder, who bats left handed and bowls medium pace with right hand, lost balance when he attempted to throw at the stumps after swooping on the ball off his own bowling and his head hit the turf as he went on a tumble.

TV replays showed him lying on the ground for some time when he was attended to and then he completed the over before leaving the field and was taken to the hospital.

Nayar did not bat in the Mumbai first innings which folded up for a measly 44 in only 15.3 overs in reply to Karnataka's first innings total of 202. The hosts made 10 for 2 in the second innings on a dramatic first day's play during which 21 wickets fell.
