Mumbai, Dec 18: In a shocking incident, Mumbai Police officials reportedly roughed up cricket prodigy and world record holder Pranav Dhanawade on Saturday (December 17).

The 16-year-old cricketer from Kalyan was also dragged to the police station by cops where he was verbally abused and man handled.

As per a TOI report, Dhanawade was at a practice session at Subhash Maidan when police officials arrived at the ground and asked the cricketers to vacate it.

As helicopter of Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar was supposed to land on the ground. Javadekar was to land here to attend functions at two Urdu schools in Kalyan and Bhiwandi.

As per a Zee News report, Dhanawade and his friends started arguing with police and protested against using the sports ground as a helipad. As the situation seemed getting out of control, a police officer and some constables reached the ground but the argument got worsened.

Dhanawade asked police to show permission, which made the cops take him to the police station, DS Suryawanshi of Bajarpeth police station was quoted as saying.

Later, Pranav was quoted by TOI as saying, "After practice, we were doing stretches, which takes about five minutes. During that time two cops, including sub-inspector Kadam, told us to immediately vacate the ground."

Tendulkar's advice to Pranav

Pranav said cops abused him and even slapped him. Cops later forced the Dhanawade and his father into a police jeep. Pranav even said that cops told him they would teach him and his father a lesson.

Pranav Dhanawade became a household name earlier this year after he scored an incredible 1,009 not out (327 balls, 396 minutes, 129 fours, 59 sixes) during an Under-16 inter-school match.

Never has any individual scored 1,000 runs in one innings, in competitive cricket before Pranav. The previous highest individual in any form of cricket was 628 not out by England's AEJ Collins, as a 13-year-old, in 1899.
