MS Dhoni still fit to play, leave the retirement decision to him: Sachin Tendulkar

The 'Master Blaster' opined that Dhoni is still physically and mentally fit and decision to retire from limited overs format should rest on himself.

New Delhi, Dec 6: India's cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has also joined the list of players backing India's limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to continue playing.

Tendulkar, whose illustrious cricketing career spanned 24 years, felt MS Dhoni is still fit to play competitive cricket and he's his best judge.

MS Dhoni is the best judge as far as his retirement is concerned: Sachin Tendulkar

The 'Master Blaster' opined that Dhoni is still physically and mentally fit and decision to retire from limited overs format should rest on himself.

In an interview to Times of India, Tendulkar was quoted as saying, "It (his performance) shouldn't be related to age. I still remember that there were articles that T20 cricket is meant for youngsters, which is all wrong. I mean, Brad Hogg is playing at 44. It's wrong to say that I scored a double hundred in ODIs at 38. Fitness is all that matters. If a player is physically fit, mentally in a state of mind to play for India, let that be his choice. He knows his mind and body better than anyone else. He's the best judge. Leave the maters to him.

The 34-year-old Dhoni had called time on his Test career in the middle of the away series against Australia in December 2014.

Time and again Dhoni has maintained that he's still fit and in good shape and will continue playing as long as he feels fit.

Veteran cricketers who personally know Dhoni said MS Dhoni will himself hang up his gloves the day he feels he's unable to perform.

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly earlier opined that there is still a lot of cricket left in the Indian captain and he has a lot to contribute towards Indian cricket in limited overs.

Former Australian batsman Dean Jones felt that the Jharkhand dasher will be "missed more in sub-continental conditions" once he calls time on his illustrious career.

While there has been a clamour to elevate Kohli at the top, Jones is against the idea of pushing great players into retirement as Virat Kohli still has a lot of time take over from Dhoni across all formats.

Dhoni has been the captain of the Indian cricket team in ODIs for nine years.
