Mohali, Oct 23: India's limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni crossed yet another major milestone in One Day Internationals on Sunday (October 23) by completing 9,000 runs in the tournament against New Zealand at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
MS Dhoni hit Mitchell Santner for a huge six to join an elite company of Indian batsmen.
The 35-year-old cricketer is the 17th batsman in the history of the game to cross the 9,000-run mark in ODIs.
Before this, the wicketkeeper-batsman, who has so far featured in 280 ODIs, had accumulated 8,978 runs with 9 hundreds and 60 half centuries.
Dhoni, who made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in Chittagong on December 23, 2004, had a forgettable start to his career.
Dhoni, as batsman, wicketkeeper and skipper, has achieved a lot of success. He is one of the best finishers in the limited overs format. He is only the 5th Indian to the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Azharuddin.
With 196* Dhoni also hit most sixes by an Indian in ODIs surpassing Sachin Tendulkar. He also hit 124 sixes as a captain to go past Ricky Ponting's previous record.
Here's how fans hailed MSD on Twitter for completing several milestones:
