Chennai, Oct 20: South African batsman JP Duminy has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against India due to a hand injury. Dean Elgar has been named as his replacement.
Left-hander Duminy sustained a laceration to his right hand while fielding a ball off his own bowling during the 3rd ODI in Rajkot, which South Africa won by 22 runs.
The 31-year-old Duminy will need 2 to 3 weeks to recover from his hand injury, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has said.
Duminy, who bowls part-time off-spin, will however remain with the squad in India for treatment, with the aim of having him fit for the 1st Test in Mohali on November 5, CSA added.
In the 3 ODIs so far against India, he scored 15, 36 and 14 and took 1 wicket. South Africa lead the 5-match series 2-1. The 4th match is in Chennai on Thursday (October 22) and the final ODI in Mumbai on October 25 (Sunday).
Elgar, the 28-year-old left-hander has so far played 17 Tests and 5 ODIs for South Africa. His last appearance in a ODI was in September 2012 against England.
