IPL's COO Sundar Raman quits, BCCI accepts his resignation

Bengaluru, Nov 3: Indian Premier League's (IPL) Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sundar Raman has quit and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has accepted his resignation, according to reports on Tuesday morning (November 3).

Raman was IPL's COO from the inaugural edition of the league in 2008. He will step down from his position on November 5 (Thursday).

There was pressure on Raman after his name cropped up in the IPL spot-fixing scandal in 2013. Even BCCI president Shashank Manohar had questioned his position as the league's COO after the controversy.

"Raman should have gone immediately after the Mudgal Committee report found him prima facie guilty of wrongdoings. He ought to have stepped down immediately at that time. Now, to restore the faith of people in IPL and the game, Raman needs to go," Manohar had said in July.

According to reports, Raman met Manohar on Monday (November 2) in Nagpur and submitted his resignation.

Later in the day, BCCI said in a brief media statement, "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday accepted Mr. Sundar Raman's resignation from the post of Chief Operating Officer of the Indian Premier League (IPL)."
