Bengaluru, April 28: Former captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has an advice for all Indian young batsmen playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. (Match scorecard)
Gavaskar, who was in the host broadcaster Sony TV's studio during Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Lions (GL) match last night (April 27), was not happy with the way left-hander Ishan Kishan got out.
GL's Kishan was sent as an opener to bat at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He came out with Brendon McCullum. He hit four fours on way to a 11-ball 16. But the manner in which he got out did not please Gavaskar.
Gavaskar felt it would have been good for the 18-year-old Kishan to have played with more caution and registered a half century instead of just 16. Kishan went for a sweep shot and was LBW to legspinner Samuel Badree.
GL defeated RCB by 7 wickets thanks to Aaron Finch's hurricane half century.
For Gavaskar, attempting to play across the line by Kishan was not right. Gavaskar said Indian youngsters were going for "glamour shots" rather than trying to play normal strokes.
He observed that some of the Indian youngsters did not have the "power" to play big shots. Gavaskar said it was better for the younger players not to attempt "glamour shots" in IPL.
