IPL 2017: A legend throws weight behind struggling MS Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is struggling in IPL 2017, has received support from a legend.

Bengaluru, April 18: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the batsman, is not having the best of times in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. But he is receiving support from fans and former cricketers. Now, a legend has backed the former Indian captain.

With scores of 12 not out, 5, 11, 5 and 28 in the 10th edition of IPL so far, Dhoni is under pressure. Having set high standards in his illustrious career, people are expecting him to maintain them. (Watch Dhoni's 'Six on the roof')

And when it comes to IPL, he had always played as a captain. But this year is different. Before the start of the season he was removed as Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) skipper. He is now playing under Steve Smith's leadership. (Fans trend #WeStandByDhoni)

With many questioning Dhoni's batting abilities, the 35-year-old has found an ally in Australian spin legend Shane Warne.

According to the former legspinner, Dhoni is still a "class and wonderful" player in all formats and a "great captain".

"@msdhoni does not have to prove anything to anyone, he's class & a wonderful player in all formats. MS is also a great captain & inspires !," Warne wrote on his Twitter page today (April 18).

Recently, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly said Dhoni was not a good T20 player.

"I am not too sure if Dhoni is a good T20 player. He is a champion ODI player but when it comes to T20 cricket, in 10 years, he has got one fifty and that's not the best record," Ganguly told "India Today".

On Sunday night (April 16), at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Dhoni showed he can still play the big shots. He unleashed a monstrous hit, which landed on the roof.
