The official announcement on Maxwell was made on Thursday (March 9). He will be taking over team's reigns from Murali Vijay, who led the side in the IPL 9.
"With fireworks in his batting, bowling & fielding it's time to unleash the Captain in him. The King of our Pride this season - @Gmaxi_32!," tweeted KXIP.
Maxwell has been given preference over England skipper Eoin Morgan and South Africa opener Hashim Amla.

Maxwell is one of the most explosive batsmen in the IPL, who first played for Delhi Daredevils. Before joining KXIP he was a part of Mumbai Indians.
Maxwell was bought by the Kings XI for $1 million in the 2013 IPL auction. The team management would be hoping the side touches new heights under his leadership.
At present he's with the Australian Test squad touring India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but hasn't played any game so far.
Kings XI Punjab have had a reputation of changing their captain every season because the team hasn't done well for most of the part of the league.
