IPL 2016: How these top six teams can book a place into play-offs

New Delhi, May 21: After table toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a shocking last-ball defeat at the hands of Delhi Daredevils at Raipur, despite nearing its climax the Indian Premier League (IPL) is still open for 6 teams.

Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergiants are the only teams whose IPL 9 campaign has come to an end.

IPL 2016: How these top six teams can book a place into play-offs

Owing to their highest ranking as well as net run rate, Sunrisers Hyderabad is the only team that is virtually through to the play-offs, while rest five teams are still in the hunt for top three spots in the points table.

Here are all the possible permutations and combinations for all these 5 sides in final leg of the league match.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Points 16 Net Run Rate +0.355):

If SRH win their game against Kolkata Knight Riders, they are through. David Warner-led side is still sitting at the top of the table hence, they are assured of a play-off berth.

The SRH will be through, if Mumbai Indians are defeated by Gujarat Lions on May 21, even if they lose their last game.

The only way Hyderabad could be eliminated, if the side lose their last game badly and five teams finish on 16 points each, then they might be eliminated on the basis of net run rate.

Gujarat Lions (Points 16 Net Run Rate -0.479):

The Suresh Raina-led team will earn a berth for play-offs if they beat Mumbai Indians in their last game. With 16 points and a healthy run rate, which at present is in negative, would ensure this side ensure a second spot in the final points table.

But a loss against Mumbai would dent their hopes as they will then have to fight off a five-team battle on net run-rate.

If Sunrisers defeat Knight Riders in their final game, even then the Orange Army would make it to the play-offs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (Points 14 Net Run Rate +0.930):

Virat Kohli's valiant effort throughout this IPL will be paid off if the RCB beat Delhi Daredevils in the must win game. With 16 points and better net run rate, there would be no stopping this RCB side.

However, a loss will dash their hopes as they would then be having just 14 points. In such a scenario the RCB will have to depend on matches between Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Kolkata Knight Riders (Points 14 Net Run Rate +0.022):

The only way this side could qualify into the play-offs is by defeating table toppers Sunrisers in their next game. A loss, will make their case a lot like RCB thus, they will have to depend upon others.

Mumbai Indians (Points 14 Net Run Rate -0.082):

The only way defending champions will make it to the final four is by registering a massive win against Gujarat Lions to ensure 16 points and a healthy net run rate, which at present is in negative.

Delhi Daredevils ( Points 14: Net Run Rate -0.102):

They might have kept themselves in the race after winning last ball thriller against SRH, but the road to play-offs isn't an easy one for them. Like Mumbai, Daredevils too badly need a big win against an upbeat RCB.
