Kanpur, Sep 22: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar today (September 22) heaped praise on the current Indian Test squad and expected them to dominate world cricket for the next 8 to 10 years.
Tendulkar, who is in Kanpur to witness India's historic 500th Test, said the present team is a "fabulous combination". (Kohli praises current squad)
"We have a fabulous combination. The best part about all these players is that they are young and they will play for a while. I see this team playing together for 8-10 years and dominating world cricket.
"We have the firepower, balance is really nice. If we continue to stick to these players, obviously there will be few changes here and there, but if players are fit, in proper shape and condition, we have bright days ahead," Tendulkar told "Star Sports" TV on Thursday (September 22) during the 1st day's play as India batted against New Zealand.
Earlier, Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat at Green Park Stadium. He said he was honoured to lead the side in the 500th Test. Of the 500 Tests for India, Tendulkar alone has featured in 200. That is 40 per cent of the matches.
Starting today, India will play 13 Tests at home. After New Zealand, England, Australia and Bangladesh are set to visit.
"I feel this season is a phase where we can lay a foundation as to where the Test team will go as far as India is concerned. We started off very well (in the West Indies). This team is full of exciting players who are very talented as we all know. The challenge for the last one year or so is to show composure and get the victories. And we have been able to do that. The important thing is to continue the same," Kohli had said before the Test in Kanpur.
