Kolkata, Oct 3: India once again became the number one side in the world, replacing Pakistan at the top of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Rankings today (October 3).
Match Scorecard
The Virat Kohli-led Indian side thrashed New Zealand by 178 runs in the 2nd Test at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on Monday, the 4th day of the match, to reclaim the top spot which they had lost to Pakistan last month. India lead the 3-Test series 2-0.
India needed to win the 3-match series against the Kiwis by 2-0 or more to regain the top position. The hosts won the first Test in Kanpur by 197 runs.
If India win the Test rubber 2-0 they will have 113 rating points while a 3-0 whitewash will get them 115 points. In both cases, Pakistan will slip to 4th.
The Test rankings are updated after every series. India will have to wait till the 3rd and final Test in Indore ends on October 12 to see the updated rankings.
