As per Hussain Test Cook should hand over captaincy to Joe Root if the left-handed opener feels he's taking the job for granted.

"If he still feels the same way he did when he started, if every defeat hurts him as much now as it did then, I believe he should carry on," Hussain, was quoted as saying by Sport24.

"But if any part of him feels as if hes taking the job for granted, then he should have a serious think about handing it over to Joe Root. Its not a job you do lightly."

After the humiliating defeat at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Cook hinted that his deputy Joe Root is 'ready' become next captain and that the middle-order batsman will be a good skipper.

"I think Joe Root is ready to captain England. He's ready because he's a clued on guy, he's got the respect of everyone in the changing room. He hasn't got much captaincy experience but that doesn't mean he can't be a very good captain," Cook was quoted as saying after losing the Test series to India.

Cook's captaincy has come under scanner after his team's dismal performance against Bangladesh and now in India.
