ICC Test Rankings: Root back as No. 1 batsman, no Indian in top-10

Dubai, Oct 27: England's Joe Root has become the number 1 Test batsman again, replacing Steve Smith of Australia in the latest ICC Players Rankings released today.

In the 2nd Test between England and Pakistan, which concluded in Dubai yesterday (October 26), Root scored 88 and 71. However, England by 178 runs.

Root, who entered the Test trailing Smith by 13 points, now leads the Australian by just three points. This means the Yorkshire batsman will have to perform strongly in the third Test, starting in Sharjah from Sunday (November 1), to retain the position he first achieved following the Trent Bridge Test against Australia in August, ICC said in a media release on Tuesday (October 26). Root was number 1 in August.

South Africa's AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla are at 3rd and 4th respectively. Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has returned to the top-5 and is now in 5th place.

In bowlers' rankings, Pakistan's leg-spinner Yasir Shah has achieved a career-best rank of number 2 after taking 8 wickets in Dubai. South Africa paceman Dale Steyn continues to be on top.

There is no Indian batsman in the top-10 of rankings while among the bowlers, R Ashwin is the best at number 8. Ashwin is also at number 2 in all-rounders' ranking. India's best batsman is Virat Kohli at 11th.
