Christchurch/Melbourne, Feb 14: A hat-trick, two 300 plus scores, a individual hundred, two five-wicket hauls. Plenty happened on the first day of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 on Saturday.
Cricket's biggest spectacle was unveiled at Hagley Oval in Christchurch and co-host New Zealand hammered Sri Lanka by 98 runs. Australia too secured a big win over England at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) today.
Here are the highlights from the opening day of World Cup, from both Pool A matches
# New Zealand scored 331/6 in 50 overs and later restricted Sri Lanka to 233 all out to win by 98 runs in the opening game of the tournament
# Australia went further than their neighbours and posted 342/9 in 50 overs against England at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). They bowled out England for 231 to win by 111 runs
# There were 4 half centuries in this game (3 from New Zealand and 1 Sri Lankan)
