On Friday (July 22), at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Kohli struck a magnificent double century (200, 283 balls, 24x4) to put India in control of the first Test against the West Indies.

Riding on the skipper's knock and Ravichandran Ashwin's 113, India declared at 566/8 and took a wicket as the home team ended the 2nd day at 31/1. (Fans hail Kohli's knock)

Nearly 10 years after making his first-class debut, Kohli registered his maiden 200-run mark. He is also the first Indian captain to score a double hundred in an overseas Test. (Ind-WI series schedule)

The 27-year-old Delhi right-hander made his Test debut on the Caribbean islands in 2011 and in his return to the same place as the team's leader, has made an impact in the very first match of the 4-contest rubber.

Reflecting on the knock, Kohli said it was a very good feeling to touch the 200-run mark for the first time.

"Yes, it is a very good feeling. I made my debut here and it wasn't a memorable series for me. Coming back here and getting a double hundred gives me a lot of satisfaction purely because of the fact that I have missed a couple of big scores in the past. (More pressure when I am not batting: Kohli)

"I know I have the ability to get big hundreds. This is my first double hundred in first-class matches in general, so this is something I always wanted to do and I am feeling really grateful today that I was able to cross the mark," Kohli told the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) website after the day's play.

He added, "It is just a very good feeling. Test cricket is the most important format as far as I am concerned and the whole of team is concerned, so when you do well in Test cricket, it gives you the job satisfaction like nothing else. I am really happy for this moment."

Prior to yesterday's knock, Kohli's highest score in first-class career was 197, for Delhi against Pakistan's Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the Mohammad Nissar Trophy in September 2008, at his home ground - Feroz Shah Kotla.
