Durban, Jan 17: South African batsman Hashim Amla has broken another record held by India's ODI vice-captain Virat Kohli.
This time Amla, the right-handed opener, has bettered a joint record owned by Kohli and Sir Vivian Richards of West Indies. Amla scored 66 in South Africa's opening ODI against West Indies last night (January 16) at Kingsmead to become the fastest to 5,000 ODI runs club.
The 31-year-old hit a run-a-ball 66 with the help of 10 boundaries as South Africa won the game by 61 runs via the Duckworth/Lewis method.
Amla reached the 5,000-run milestone in 101 innings (104 matches). Kohli and Richards took 114 visits to the crease to get there.
Two months back, in November, Amla had taken away another record of Kohli's when he hit his 17th ODI ton in fewer innings (98) than the Indian (112).
