India will be playing three Tests, 5 ODIs and a T20I against Sri Lanka in the full-fledged series.

Hashan Tillakratne appointed Sri Lanka's batting coach for India series

Tillakratne was give the task of batting coach ahead of the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, which the hosts won with a record chase.

Sri Lanka are without a coach ever since Graham Ford stepped down from his position after team's unsatisfactory show at ICC Champions Trophy.

Talking about Tillakratne's appointment, Sri Lanka Cricket manager Asanka Gurusinha expressed confidence that the former cricketer's experience would be beneficial for the team.

"Hashan has been with us since the recent Test match against Zimbabwe, actually. At this stage, for all the Tests he will be batting coach. Most probably after the Indian series we'll discuss with coach Nic Pothas and see what's happening from there. With all his experience, there is a lot the batsmen can learn from him," Gurusinha was quoted by ESPNCricinfo as saying.

Earlier last week, former pacer Chaminda Vaas was appointed the specialist fast bowling coach for the upcoming series against India.

Hashan scored 4545 runs in 83 Tests he played for Sri Lanka. He was also a part of Sri Lanka's World Cup-winning team in 1996. In his first-class cricket career that stretched over 21 years, he has amassed 13,253 runs at an average of 49.26.

Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team will clash with Rangana Herath and company in the first Test at Galle, starting July 26.

Herath will be leading the side in the absence of skipper Dinesh Chandimal, who was hospitalised after he complained of pneumonia.
