Harbhajan reveals India's 'best spin attack', calls Ashwin 'fantastic'

Bengaluru, Sep 29: Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has described the current slow bowling quartet of R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Axar Patel and himself as the "best spin attack" in the country.

All 4 - Harbhajan, Ashwin, Amit and Axar feature in India's Twenty20 International squad for the upcoming South Africa series at home. While the latter 3 are also included for first 3 ODIs (5-match series), Harbhajan has missed out. 21-year-old left-armer Axar is the youngest among the 4.

Ashwin appeals for a wicket during the Sri Lanka Test series recently

Ahead of the series, Harbhajan spoke to the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) website and lauded Ashwin and Amit as "fantastic" for their performances in last month's historic Test rubber win in Sri Lanka.

"We have a lot of variety here. We have off-spinners, a left-arm spinner and a leggie. I feel this is the best spin attack we have got at the moment," Harbhajan told bcci.tv last night (September 28).

"All of them have really done well in the recent past. R Ashwin bowled really well in the previous series against Sri Lanka. He has been fantastic and so has Amit Mishra. Axar Patel has been consistent in his performances in the ODIs. Also, the good thing about our spin department is that everybody can bat," he added.

The 35-year-old from Punjab said there was "give and take kind of camaraderie" between him and the other 3 spinners in the team.

"This is the best you can get and I am here to give how much ever I can to the team. I am also there to give my advice to these guys on their game. It is a give and take kind of camaraderie among us. I am learning a lot of things from them as well. I want to learn, enjoy and try to do my best. I will do my best to win games for India," Harbhajan, who has played 103 Tests and 232 ODIs, said.

India and South Africa face off in the tour-opening T20I in Dharamsala on October 2 (Friday).
