Ranchi, Feb 12: Sri Lanka's Thisara Perera became only the 4th bowler in Twenty20 International's short history to take a hat-trick. He achieved the feat here tonight (February 12) against India.
Right-arm medium paceman Perera dismissed Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh in the 19th over (4th, 5th and 6th deliveries) of the 2nd T20I at the JSCA International Stadium on Friday to claim a hat-trick. India were 186 at the time. Perera joined Brett Lee (Australia), Jacob Oram and Tim Southee (both from New Zealand) in an elite company of 4.
With the hosts' batsmen going in for quick runs, Perera took 3 wickets off 3 balls. First, he got Pandya (27 off 12 balls) caught at long-on by Danushka Gunathilaka.
As the catch was taken Raina (30 off 19) crossed over to the other end and faced the next ball which he played it to backward square-leg where Dushmantha Chameera took a catch.
Yuvraj walked out to face the hat-trick ball and the low full toss from the Sri Lankan was hit high and at long-off Sachithra Senanayake accepted the catch to hand Perera a hat-trick. Left-handed Yuvraj collected a golden duck. The 26-year-old Perera was playing his 44th T20I. He finished with figures of 3/33 in 3 overs.
