Bengaluru, Feb 14: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 Players Auction will feature 351 cricketers, it was announced today (February 14). (Full list is at the end of this article)
The Players Auction will take place in Bengaluru on February 20 (Monday).
The highest base price for this year's mini auction is Rs 2 crore. There are 7 players including Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma in the top bracket.
England's Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Chris Woakes, Australia's Mitchell Johnson, Pat Cummins and Sri Lankan Angelo Mathews are the other 6 who have a base price of Rs 2 crore. (List of players sold at IPL 2016 auction)
"The IPL franchises will go into the player auction with a maximum of INR 143.33 Crs purse for 2017 season.
"The teams can have a maximum of 27 players including 9 overseas players. A maximum of 76 players, including 28 overseas, can be bought at the auction," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said.
Earlier, there were 799 players who had registered for the auction. Now, it has been pruned to 351 after the teams submitted their choices.
There are no players from Pakistan for the auction. However, 6 cricketers from Associate nations - Afghanistan (Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Shahzad, Rashid Khan and Dawlat Zadran) and United Arab Emirates (Chirag Suri), are included.
Kings XI Punjab have the maximum funds for auction with a purse of Rs 23.35 crore. The next highest is Rs 23.1 crore with Delhi Daredevils. Each team has a total purse of Rs 66 crore.
IPL 2017, the 10th edition of the cash-rich Twenty20 tournament, begins on April 5.
