Sydney, Nov 27: It was a sad day for cricket on Thursday as Australia Test opener Phil Hughes died after suffering severe head injuries during a match. (List - Players who died due to on-field injuries)

Cricket world was shocked to hear this terrible news on Thursday morning (November 27). Cricketers and fans took to Twitter to mourn the sudden loss of Hughes, who would have turned 26 on November 30.

The left-handed opening batsman was hit on the head by a Sean Abbott bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match on Tuesday (November 25) at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). He had surgery on the same day but never regained consciousness, Australian team doctor Peter Brukner said. Former India captain Rahul Dravid said it was one of the worst days in cricket. "It is a really sad and depressing day for cricket. It is really hard, probably one of the worst days. It is hard to come to terms with something like this happening to a cricketer on a cricket field and at this time all our thoughts are with his family and friends and may his soul rest in peace. It is going to take a long time to get over this for everyone all over the cricketing world," Dravid said.
