Adelaide, Feb 7: India captain MS Dhoni became a father for the first time, to a baby girl yesterday (February 6) but national duties had kept him away from India and he did not mind missing being with his wife Sakshi as World Cup is important at the moment.
Sakshi gave birth to a baby girl at a private hospital in Gurgaon on Friday. Both the mother and daughter are doing fine. Dhoni is currently in Australia preparing for World Cup defence with his Indian team-mates.
Today, when Dhoni spoke to the media in Adelaide, was asked whether he would have preferred to be with his wife in India, to which he said no.
"Not really. I have been blessed with a baby daughter. Mum and daughter both are good. "But as of now I am on national duties so I think everything else can wait. The World Cup is a very important campaign," Dhoni said. Dhoni and Sakshi got married on July 4, 2010.
India launch their World Cup campaign against Pakistan on February 15 at the Adelaide Oval. The World Cup ends on March 29.
