England name unchanged 16-man Test squad for India tour

"James Anderson has been omitted while he recovers from a shoulder injury although it is hoped he will still play some part in the series."

London, Oct 26: England today (October 26) announced an unchanged 16-man Test squad for India tour with paceman James Anderson not included as he recovers from a shoulder injury.

The squad, captained by Alastair Cook, will play 5 Tests against India, starting in Rajkot on November 9. For the first time at home, India have agreed to use the Umpire Decision Review System (DRS) on a "trial basis". (Series will be of high quality: Kohli)

The same set of English players are currently playing in Bangladesh in a 2-Test series. They won the first Test by 22 runs. The 2nd Tests starts in Dhaka on Friday (October 28).

"James Anderson has been omitted while he recovers from a shoulder injury although it is hoped he will still play some part in the series," the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement on Wednesday (October 26).

The 34-year-old Anderson is the highest Test wicket-taker for England with 473 scalps.

India-England Test series ends on December 20 in Chennai. The players will return home for Christmas and be back in India in January to play 3 One Day Internationals and an equal number of Twenty20 Internationals.

The ODI rubber starts in Pune on January 15, 2017 while the T20Is begin in Kanpur on January 26.
