David Warner completes 1,000 runs in 2014

Adelaide, Dec 12: Australia's David Warner today completed 1,000 runs in 2014 en route to his century in the second innings of the first Test against India here, becoming the first opener to achieve the feat in one calendar year since England skipper Alastair Cook in 2012.

The last Australian opener to reach the milestone had been Simon Katich (1,111 runs) in 2009. In the process, the 28-year-old Warner became the fifth batsman to complete Test 1000 runs in 2014.

The other four are Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara (1,486 runs), Angelo Mathews (1,201), Mahela Jayawardene (1003 runs) and veteran Pakistan batsman Younis Khan who has accumulated 1,213 runs.

Warner has been in dream form and scored a brisk 145 in the first innings of the ongoing Test match against India. Well past his second century of the match, Australia would look to Warner to help them set India a big target in the fourth innings.

Warner has already scored eight half centuries in the last 11 Test innings, giving ample evidence of the imperious form that he is in.
