Dharamsala, March 28: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today (March 28) congratulated Team India and announced cash awards for winning the Test series 2-1 against Australia.

On Tuesday, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, India defeated Australia by 8 wickets in the 4th and final Test to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It was a remarkable comeback by Virat Kohli-captained India to seal the series, after losing the opening Test in Pune. (No friendship with Australia: Kohli)
With this win, India also maintained their top position in the Internatioanl Cricket Council's (ICC) Test Rankings. They received $1 million bonus for the same, from ICC. The cheque and Test Championship mace was handed over by former captain Sunil Gavaskar.
The BCCI announced that each member of the Test side would receive Rs 50 lakh for the "historic Test series win" against Australia. Head coach Anil Kumble will get Rs 25 lakh while the other members of the support staff will be richer by Rs 15 lakh each.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday congratulated the Indian Cricket Team for retaining the No. 1 position in Test team rankings and registering unbeaten series wins in the home season 2016-17," the Indian cricket board said in a media advisory.
"The BCCI also announced the following cash awards after the historic Test series win against Australia - (i) Team India Test team members - INR 50 Lakhs, (ii) Team India Head Coach - INR 25 Lakhs, (iii) Team India Support Staff - INR 15 Lakhs. The cash rewards will be given on a pro rata basis," it added.
Today's Test brought down curtains on India's home season as far as the longer format is concerned. They played 13 Tests and won all series, against New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1-0) and Australia (2-1). They won 10 Tests, lost 1 and drew 2.
