Kohli, who first led the Indian Test team in December last year against Australia in Adelaide, has so far captained in 5 matches. (Ashwin breaks Harbhajan's record)

His captaincy debut ended in a loss though as a batsman he was outstanding, scoring century in both innings. (Match report)

The 26-year-old had stepped in to lead the side in Adelaide after regular skipper MS Dhoni was ruled out due to injury. Following Dhoni's retirement during that series, Kohli was handed the reins on a full-time basis.

His first full tour, albeit only 1 Test, came in June against Bangladesh where rain played spoilsport and the teams had to settle for a draw.

In the ongoing series in Sri Lanka, India lost from a winning position in Galle. But they bounced back in Colombo to level the series 1-1.

It was a moment to cherish for Kohli as his first Test win as captain came in Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara's last match. (Kohli presents his jersey to Sangakkara)

Team India and its fans will be hoping this is just the beginning of many more Test victories under Kohli's leadership.
