Kohli, who is leading India in a Test for the first time after regular skipper MS Dhoni was ruled out due to injury, constructed a superb hundred at the Adelaide Oval on the third day of the opening Test.

Virat Kohli celebrates his 7th Test ton

The right-hander from Delhi is the 3rd Indian to score a ton in his captaincy debut innings. Overall, he is 4th with Dilip Vengsarkar having scored a century in the second innings.

The 26-year-old Kohli was welcomed to the crease by a Mitchell Johnson bouncer. The ball hit him on the helmet and all the Australians were concerned and were quick to check about his well-being. This sight follows after the tragic death of Phillip Hughes who was felled by a bouncer in a domestic match.

After this nasty reception at the crease, Kohli got down to business, scoring runs and brought up his 7th Test hundred in 158 balls.

Known for his aggressive batting and celebrations, Kohli did not hold back upon reaching the three-figure mark. He was seen saying few words to himself and pointed the bat to the crest and the Indian flag on his helmet.

The skipper was dismissed for 115 (184 balls, 12x4) by Johnson while trying to pull a bouncer.

With today's century, Kohli also overtook Dhoni in terms of Test hundreds. Kohli has 7 in 30 matches while Dhoni has scored 6 so far in 88 games. In the current Indian squad, Kohli is the highest Test century-maker. Cheteshwar Pujara is joint second with Dhoni with 6.
