Bengaluru, Nov 14: Continuing its practice of releasing reserve players from the Indian Test team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today decided to send 3 cricketers to play for their respective Ranji Trophy sides from tomorrow.
The 2nd Test between India and South Africa got under way at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium today (November 14). Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Gurkeerat Singh Mann did not find a place in the Playing XI and BCCI has released them to play Ranji Trophy.
During the 1st Test in Mohali last week, Bhuvneshwar, Rohit Sharma and Stuart Binny were allowed to play Ranji Trophy instead of carrying drinks during the match.
"Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Gurkeerat Singh Mann have been released from the Indian Test team, which is playing the 2nd Test of the Paytm Freedom Trophy against South Africa in Bengaluru. They will join their respective state teams for the next round of Ranji Trophy matches," BCCI said in a media advisory on Saturday, the 1st day of the 2nd Test.
"Karnataka Ranji Trophy players, Karun Nair and Mayank Agarwal will assist the Indian Team as reserve players during the second Test Match at Bengaluru," it added.
Paceman Umesh of Vidarbha will play against Rajasthan while Uttar Pradesh's Bhuvneshwar faces Tamil Nadu while Gurkeerat of Punjab meets Baroda. Karnataka don't have a game in this round and hence their players will assist the Indian team.
The next round of Ranji Trophy starts Sunday (November 15).
