The Indian skipper achieved yet another milestone after he hit the six in his four-ball innings against the Lankans.
With just 14 runs required for victory, captain Dhoni came to bat and joined Kohli in the middle. The duo knocked off the remaining runs with 4 balls to spare and stormed India into finals.
It was India's third successive victory, clinching a berth for the summit clash as they now stand on the cusp of their sixth continental championship trophy.
The final is scheduled on March 6 (Sunday). In their final league game, India face United Arab Emirates on Thursday (March 3).
With 35 catches and 17 stumpings in 61 matches, Dhoni became the second wicketkeeper after Pakistan's Kamran Akmal to effect 50 dismissals or more in all three formats of International cricket - Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
His winning per cent of 58.47 as captain is quite impressive - 34 victories, 24 losses, one tied and one no-result match out of 60 matches in T20Is.
