Ashwin unhappy with 'jibe' on pitch, asks media to assess 2nd Test wicket

"One day I really wish to walk into a press conference and stop answering questions on the pitch."

Visakhapatnam, Nov 18: Whenever there is a Test match in India, the spotlight is always on the pitch and it is no different in the ongoing 2nd Test between the hosts and England.

After India had seized control of the match on the 2nd day today (November 18), star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was asked about the condition of the 22-yard strip and he was not happy about the question which he called it a "jibe" referring to the focus always being on the wicket.

England were in deep trouble at 103/5 on Friday in reply to hosts' 455. Ashwin scored 58 runs and later took 2 wickets but was asked about the pitch which has already started assisting spin.

"One day I really wish to walk into a press conference and stop answering questions on the pitch," Ashwin said with a smile in a press conference after 2nd day's play. He was asked about how the pitch has been so far and how it would behave from tomorrow.

He continued, "That is as good as an Indian pitch one can get. I don't know why this jibe comes back at us. Honestly it looks like a jibe the way we are looking at Indian wickets. It does. Honestly you guys (media) watch the game through the day and the pitch is something that you can assess better than we do."

With Indian spinners set to dominate tomorrow's play, England have an uphill task. And the focus on the pitch is set to remain.

India and England are playing a 5-Test series. The first match ended in a draw in Rajkot. The third Test starts in Mohali on November 26.
