Ashish Nehra undergoes successful knee surgery

By Ians English

New Delhi, May 25: Veteran pacer Ashish Nehra, who was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament with a hamstring injury, has undergone a successful knee surgery in London.

The 36-year-old, who represented the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in the cash-rich league, had sustained a high-grade tendon injury and the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) medical team, after assessing his injury, recommended that he consult an orthopaedic specialist in London.

The Delhi left-armer underwent surgery on Tuesday (May 24).

Former India batsman and Sunrisers team mentor VVS Laxman, took to social networking site Twitter to inform about Nehra's successful surgery.

"Nehra ji had a successful operation last night in London. Wishing him a speedy recovery," Laxman wrote on Wednesday (May 25).

The Delhi pacer, who formed a formidable trio - alongside Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman and Bhuvneshwar Kumar - for the Hyderabad team, took nine wickets in eight matches before sustaining the injury in a league match against Kings XI Punjab.

The David Warner-led Hyderabad team will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the eliminator at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium here on Wednesday.
