In the 2nd Twenty20 International against England in Nagpur on Sunday (January 29), Nehra and Bumrah bowled exceptionally well as India won a last-over thriller by 5 runs to level the 3-match rubber 1-1. (Don't complain about umpiring error: Bumrah to England)
Bumrah was called upon to bowl the final over of the match with England needing 8 runs to win. The right-arm paceman held his nerve to take 2 wickets and gave away only 1 run. In the match, it was Nehra's advice which helped the 23-year-old Bumrah.
Indian captain Virat Kohli praised both Nehra and Bumrah stating that the duo was "outstanding" at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
Ahead of the 3rd and final T20I, the series decider, Bumrah was asked about Nehra's influence on him and he revealed that the left-armer had helped him a lot.
"He (Nehra) has always been helpful. We have played in the World Twenty20 (2016) together too, so his guidance has always been valuable for me. He has played a lot of matches in international cricket, so he has a lot of experience. In tough situations, he tells us 'you can do this, or do that,' depending on the match situation," Bumrah told reporters at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
Bumrah, who has had issues of bowling no-balls, said he was working with coach Anil Kumble to overcome them.
"I have been working on that. I worked with Anil (Kumble) sir also in the last
match, measuring my run-up and worked something with the tape. I'm working on it and hopefully I'll get some control on it," he said.
