London, July 16: There was a young 'net' bowler at Lord's on Wednesday (July 15) as England prepared for the 2nd Ashes Test against Australia. Though English players were initially not aware who the boy was, they were later told it was Arjun Tendulkar, the son of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. (Watch the video at the end of this story)
Yes, Arjun was at Lord's 'helping' the English team prepare for the Ashes Test, which starts today (July 16). The 15-year-old left-arm paceman bowled to England batsmen along with other 'net' bowlers at Lord's.
"The teenager showed no fear as he tore in at (Ben) Stokes and England's other batsmen in the nets at the Home of Cricket and received a few pointers from England bowling coach Ottis Gibson," "Daily Mail" newspaper reported. (Sachin asks media not pressurise son)
"He caught the eye of captain (Alastair) Cook, who watched on as he bowled at his men on the eve of the second Investec Test. England enter the match full of confidence following their 169-run victory over the Aussies in the first Test at Cardiff last weekend," the report added.
Arjun is not new to bowling at international players. He has previously trained with the Indian team and also Indian Premier League (IPL) side Mumbai Indians for which his dad is an "Icon". He was a ball boy at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai when his father played his 200th and final Test.
The official Twitter account of Lord's cricket ground too wrote about Arjun's training. ".@sachin_rt's son bowled at @englandcricket in the nets this morning. Only at Lord's! #LoveLords #Ashes," it was tweeted.
Arjun, who is also a good left-hand batsman, had smashed a 42-ball 118 for Dhirubhai Ambani International School in the Under-16 Smaaash Master Blaster School Cricket Championship in September last year.
Tendulkar has an apartment close to the Lord's ground in St. John's Wood. The former India captain is a regular in England during June and July to watch Wimbledon tennis championship. He was spotted at Wimbledon this year too last week.
Tendulkar and his wife Anjali, India Test captain Virat Kohli and his girlfriend Anushka Sharma watched the men's semi-finals at Wimbledon.
