Anil Kumble slams media for writing 'absolute rubbish'

Bengaluru, Dec 1: Former India captain Anil Kumble today called media reports as "absolute rubbish" which stated that he had quit Mumbai Indians' (MI) due to conflict of interest.

On Monday (November 30), a media release from Indian Premier League (IPL) team MI said Kumble was leaving the side after serving as chief mentor from January 2013.

Many speculated that Kumble had left MI due to conflict of interest. However, not happy to have seen such reports, Kumble has denied them. He made it clear it was not the reason for him resigning from the position.

On Tuesday (December 1), he took to Twitter to slam one of such reports that appeared in a newspaper. He wrote, "Absolute Rubbish! Never was any conflict of interest! Certainly not the reason!!!."

"I sign off with the obvious satisfaction of moulding a set of brilliant individuals to a high performing unit. Over the three years, MI met unprecedented success, winning the IPL twice and the Champions League once, winning both trophies in the same year (2013) being our crowning glory," Kumble had said yesterday in MI's media release.

"As I move on to pursue other interests around cricket, I shall be amiss if I do not express my deep sense of appreciation to the Ambani family, particularly Smt Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani and Nikhil Meswani, for their unstinted support and empowerment.

"The players and my support team (coaching and non- coaching staff) have been an admirable bunch and were a joy to work with. Finally, I thank the MI fans for their constant support. I bid the Mumbai Indians farewell, convinced that I remain a member of the Ambani family," India's highest Test wicket-taker had added.
