Ambati Rayudu out of Zimbabwe tour; Sanju Samson called up

Mumbai, July 13: India's middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu has been ruled out of the remainder of the Zimbabwe tour due to an injury. Uncapped Sanju Samson has been called up.

Rayudu, who registered his ODI career best score of 124 not out in the opening match against Zimbabwe, scored 41 in yesterday's (July 12) 2nd game. India won both the clashes to clinch the series 2-0. The third and final ODI is on Tuesday (July 14). After this, India will play 2 T20Is against the hosts.

The Hyderabad batsman pulled his right quadriceps muscles during the 2nd ODI and will require 2 to 3 weeks of rehabilitation, according to the Indian cricket board.

"Ambati Rayudu ruled out of rest of the India's tour of Zimbabwe, Sanju Samson to join the team as replacement," BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said in a media release today.

"The BCCI medical team confirms that Ambati Rayudu has been ruled out of the remaining part of the India's tour of Zimbabwe due to an injury he has sustained while playing the 2nd ODI. Rayudu has pulled his right quadriceps muscles and will require 2 to 3 weeks of rehabilitation.

"The All India senior selection committee has named Sanju Samson as Rayudu's replacement for the rest of the tour," he added.

The 20-year-old Samson, a wicketkeeper-batsman, plays his first-class cricket for Kerala. He is part of the Rajasthan Royals team in Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played 21 first-class matches.
