When Dhoni led India in today's game, he completed a special triple hundred. This game was his 300th international as the captain of India. He lost the toss and opposition skipper Steve Smith sent the visitors into bat.
Dhoni, the wicketkeeper-batsman, is only the 3rd player in history to captain in 300 or more international matches. The leader is Australia's Ricky Ponting with 324 and Stephen Fleming of New Zealand with 303.
The 34-year-old Dhoni, who made his captaincy debut in 2007, is the only skipper in the history of the game to have won all three ICC trophies - World T20 (2007), World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2013).
