40-minute TV 'technical delay' costs India T20I series?

Lauderhill, Aug 30: Team India lost the two match Twenty20 series against West Indies 1-0 after rain and wet outfield forced to abandon the second T20I game at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground here on Sunday (Aug 28).

Chasing a target of 144 in 20 overs, Men In Blue were batting at 15/0 in 2 overs when showers interrupted the match.

But to the disappointment of millions of Indian cricket fans, the wet outfield forced the match officials to call of the game, by virtue of which West Indies' won the series 1-0.

India lost the first T20I against West Indies by 1-run in a last-ball thriller after skipper MS Dhoni couldn't score 2 runs off the last ball to win the game.

Team India were rather unlucky during the second T20 as Men In Blue could have comfortably won the game and levelled the series.

Before rain played spoilsport, the match started after a delay of almost 40 minutes. The broadcasters claimed that there was some technical error which forced the match, scheduled to begin at 7.30 pm IST, eventually began at 8.10 pm IST.

As per the BCCI, the reason for delay was because the uplink to the satellite was unstable and rectification took time.

India were required to play a minimum of 5 overs, which was required to ensure a result via Duckworth-Lewis method. The showers and wet outfield ate up enough time to ensure three more overs couldn't be bowled, thus eliminating the possibility of a result via the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Had the match started on its scheduled time, Indian innings could have possibly crossed its half-way mark by the time Duckworth-Lewis method would have come into force and the match may have well resulted into India's favour.

Thus, a pertinent question now arises why wasn't the match started on time if the stadium was full of crowd?

It proves that the organisers delayed the match because the broadcaster was facing 'technical snag' and starting the match on schedule would have resulted in monetary losses to the broadcaster and the organisers. But nobody cared about the fans present in the stadium, who paid hefty amount to watch their favourite cricket stars play on the US soil for the first time.
