2 new IPL teams to be unveiled on December 8 after GC meeting

New Delhi, Dec 6: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today said it will unveil 2 new Indian Premier League (IPL) teams on Tuesday (December 8) after the meeting of the Governing Council (GC).

The 2 new sides will play in place of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) which were suspended for 2 years due to betting charges against their owner/official. Both CSK and RR will return to the league in 2018 after serving their bans.

"The Indian Premier League Governing Council will meet in the afternoon of December 8 (in Delhi). The IPL GC will decide on the two new teams that will play in the IPL for the next two years," BCCI said in a media advisory on Sunday (December 6).

"This meeting will be followed by a media conference where the two new teams will be announced and the team owners will be introduced," it added.

After the GC meeting, the new owners of IPL teams will be introduced. BCCI president Shashank Manohar, secretary Anurag Thakur and IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla will address the media.
