1st Test: Australian streaker jailed in Sri Lanka

Pallekele (Sri Lanka), July 27: An Australian cricket fan has been sent to 7 days in prison by Sri Lankan police for streaking during the first day of the 1st Test between Sri Lanka and Australia here.

On Tuesday (July 26), a man from Brisbane ran onto the Pallekele International Stadium ground and dropped his clothes as it rained.

The man, identified as Alex James, completed a nude run on the covers guarding the ground as rain prevented play in the final session of the 1st day.

There was no play possible in the post-tea session due to rain. Australia were 66/2 at that stage in reply to the home team's 117.

According to the Australian media, James was fined Sri Lanka Rupees 3,000 (Australian dollars 30) and sentenced to 7 days in prison.

"A Brisbane man has been sentenced to seven days jail in Sri Lanka for streaking at the first Test. A Sri Lankan Cricket spokesman said that a man identified as Alex James of Queensland appeared at the Kandy Magistrates Court this morning to face charges laid by the Pallekele police," according to "The Australian" newspaper.

On the second day today (July 27), Australia were bowled out for 203 taking a lead of 86. Sri Lanka were 6/1 in the second essay with rain again bringing an early end to proceedings.
