Kolkata, Feb 22: He is only 12-years-old and a student of class six. No one could have imagined that a six-year old boy would be participating in the senior division cricket league, playing against the senior bowlers in a competitive match.

This happened on Tuesday (Feb 21) at Kolkata Maidan when Ranit Dev drew attention of the hundreds of spectators as well as cricket officials and a few former cricket players by striking three consecutive boundaries and remained unbeaten at 20.

Playing for second division club, International FC, Ranit was sent to bat at number seven in a three day second division league match organised by CAB. In spite of having scored just 20 runs, Ranit stole the limelight by executing excellent three cover drives.

After his team finished the day, scoring 455 runs, Ranit modestly said, “Initially I got nervous playing against the speedy bowlers of the opposition team. But gradually I shrugged off the fear and was able to play my natural game."

Prasenjit Chatterjee, coach of International FC, was simply ecstatic with Ranit.

He commented, “I knew Ranit is extremely talented. But today I was also getting nervous after selecting the boy in the first eleven with the thought whether he would be able to play against senior bowlers. I was also getting scared that it would be dangerous if he had received any injuries while playing against the senior level players. But I was simply amazed to have watched his courage."

Ranit is also a wicketkeeper. Today he will have to work from behind the stumps and stop the balls of his own bowlers.

He dreams of representing senior India in the future.

He said, “I want to become like Wriddhiman Saha by representing as wicketkeeper batsman."

The 12-year old boy has already been called up in the sub junior-Bengal team for last couple of years.
