Saurav was in good form as he beat his Malaysian opponent Ong Ben Hee in straight games 11-9, 11-4 and 11-5 in the semi-final at Yeormul Squash Courts on Monday. This is the first time ever that an Indian squash player has entered final in singles category. The win for Saurav has ensured India a silver.
Ong Ben Hee had won singles gold in two editions of Asian Games, in 2002 (Busan) and 2006 (Doha). In the last edition, he had settled for bronze in Guangzhou (2010).
Saurav took 45 minutes for the win and entered the gold medal match. It is for the first time that the 28-year-old has reached the final in singles in Asian Games. This is his third Asian Games appearance.
Earlier in the day, at the same venue, India's Dipika Pallikal settled for bronze in women's singles event after losing her semi-final.
