Bengaluru, June 29: Euro 2016 quarter-finals will start from 30th June onwards. The tournament has reached its business end as only 8 teams are left. It has been an exciting journey for the fans so far as we witnessed some very exciting and mouth-watering clahses.
The quarter-final lineup looks promising and all the clashes will be worth a watch. As the 8 teams lock horns for the ultimate supremacy, we have decided to make a list of 5 players who might prove to be match winners for their respective.
This star footballer is yet to mesmerise the fans with dazzling footworks and goal fests in this Euro. Portugal have not won a single game so far in the tournament if 90 minutes of football is taken into consideration (Portugal defeated Croatia at the extra-time). Except for a brace against Hungary, the Portuguese star has not done anything worth remembering. Portugal face Poland in the quarter-final who are an extremely spirited side with an attractive style of play. Cristiano Ronaldo has to step up at the right occassion in order to take his country to the semi-final.
2. Dimitri Payet
The French winger is in sublime form in the Euro 2016. Payet has started 3 out of 4 matches France played and scored 2 goals. He also provided 1 assist and created numerous chances. After the first two matches of the tournament the winger had created as many as 14 chances which was 1 less than Zidane's record created in Euro 2004. These stats clearly potray how crucial Payet's role has been for France in this tournament. All eyes will be on the West Ham United man as France take on Iceland in the quarter finals.
3. Antoine Griezmann
Another French forward features in our list who has instrumental for France so far. Griezmann had memorable season with Atletico Madrid as he guided them UEFA Champions League. Antoine Griezmann did not start his Euro campaign on a high as he was overshadowed by Dimitri Payet's brilliance. But he came back strongly during the round of 16 game against Republic of Ireland as his brace helped France to seal the win. Griemann will obviously be one of the most important players of France in the quarter finals as well.
4. Giorgio Chiellini
Arguably the best centre-back in the world right now, Giorgio Chiellini is a pillar in the Italian defense which has been in sublime form in this tournament. Italian manager Antonio Conte has been fielding the side in a 3-5-2 formation. Chiellini is being partnered by Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli in the backline who are doing a brilliant job. In the match against Spain in round of 16, Chiellini not only defended brilliantly, he also scored the opening goal for his side. Italian fans will hope Chiellini continues his form and help Italy to progress.
5. Gareth Bale
The Real Madrid star is the best player in Euro 2016 till now. Playing their first major trophy in 58 years, Wales have done a fantastic job so far. They have outplayed almost all their opponents except for England and all the credit goes to Gareth Bale who is almost single-handedly carrying the burden of the team. Bale has scored 3 goals so far and will be eyeing to score many more to progress further in the tournament.
